World Art Series

My World Art Series includes the Dreamtime series shown here, as well as the Dreamtime Sea-Life and Oceania series. The creative arts of many indigenous cultures around the world from Africa to Alaska inspired me to paint this group of work. My Dreamtime paintings are inspired by the “Dreamtime” artworks of the Indigenous Australian people. Traditionally, the "dreaming" artwork of the Aboriginal peoples depicted cultural and spiritual stories such as the formation of earth and life. Using nature’s earthen toned palette, I explore motifs of the Earth’s myriad and varied landforms.  In my intricate Dreamtime Sea-Life designs, in keeping with the “dreaming” stories, I employ nature’s watery hues echoing the patterns, movements, and forms of life found in our oceans where the horseshoe crabs have lived for over 400 million years. The artists of Oceania were very imaginative and used a variety of mediums from sculpture to painting to textile art, incorporating images of the dead, totemic animals and themes of fertility or the supernatural. They created practical art objects for use in ceremonies and daily life. These artists, by bringing myths into everyday life, ensure the balance of society and conceive of a world where dead and living, natural and supernatural, coexist in close association.
