Terra #7

My Terra #7 painting is on a natural horseshoe crab shell. Many of my paintings reflect my belief in the connection between all living things and the shared energy throughout our world. In this landscape work I’m expressing the continuity between the sky, sea, shore and land.

My painted shells are first prepared for painting by a thorough cleansing process that removes the ocean odors and detritus. Then the shells are fitted with inner supports made of Fire Island driftwood, which stabilizes the inherent fragility of the dried natural shell.

A leather loop is affixed to the driftwood to provide a hanger for this unique objet d'art.

Please note that each shell is a natural object and may have blemishes, peculiarities, or distinctions that contribute to every piece's uniqueness.  

All my painted Horseshoe Crabs shells have been found washed up on the beach at Davis Park, their life force long gone from them. No horseshoe Crabs have been harmed in the creation of these works of art!
